North Trail

Hike Distance: 3.8 miles point to point
Located in West Vail, this is one of my favorite hikes to do during the fall. Just remember, it is annually closed from April 15th-June 20th for elk migration. The initial section of the trail is significantly more crowded with its dirt switchbacks. It is definitely a local hot spot. The middle and last section of the trail winds through a beautiful grove of Aspen trees. For the Instagram obsessed, you can capture great pics frolicking in the aspens through this stretch. The very top of North Trail is truly breathtaking with views of the Vail Valley, Holy Cross Wilderness, and the Gore Range. It is absolutely stunning. One of our employees was actually proposed to while hiking this trail. Talk about romantic. Take notes.

This trail is located in East Vail and is a staple for locals. It is categorized as an intermediate hike and it skirts the banks of Booth Creek. At mile 1.8, this trail highlights Booth Falls – a 60-foot waterfall. It is quite impressive in person. Past this point, there are conifer forests and fields of wildflowers. Hike Distance: 4.5 miles point to point
A favorite spot for summer and winter outdoor enthusiasts. In the summer, Meadow Mountain Trail is a great hike. In the winter, it doubles as a great location for skinning and snowshoeing. The trailhead for this area is located in Minturn (Exit 171) off of I-70 W. After taking the exit, the trailhead and parking lot are located on the right. As the name suggests, this trail boasts large meadows. There are also remnants of old cabins along the trail – giving it a very authentic western touch. This area was once an old ski area – making it perfect for skinning in the winter. The trail ends at a small cabin with great views of the Gore Range and Beaver Creek Mountain.
Missouri Lakes Trail

A great hike for anyone who has a car and is willing to travel outside of Vail. This trailhead is accessed by driving past the small town of Minturn (Exit 171 on I-70 W) onto Hwy 24, and then past Gold Park Campgrounds. This hike is located in the Holy Cross Wilderness – making it a great place for hiking, fishing, and camping. This hike traverses creeks and various meadows. The major highlight of this hike is the incredible view of Lower Missouri Lake (3.15 miles) and Upper Missouri Lake (3.5 miles).
