Internationals
Interested in working at the best ski resort in the United States? Vail was ranked #1 in North America. American Ski Exchange is exactly what you're looking for. Each year we hire employees that are from all over the world. The two types of work authorization that you will need to work at American Ski Exchange in Vail are either the student J-1 or the H-2B sponsored visa.
J-1 VISA
We prefer people with ski, snowboard, or retail experience. The J-1 Visa is for students looking for four months of work experience - you'll need to work until late March. This is not a sponsored visa and needs to be attained through a work program usually at a university. American Ski Exchange won't extend a job offer before having an interview. This can be done by phone. Usually J-1 applicants fill out an application, and email it to ase@colorado.net. The absolute deadline is September 30th but we suggest applying as soon as June.
Frequently Asked Questions:
ELIGIBILITY: For J-1 Visas you must be a current student. You can apply for this visa through a work and travel program. You must work until late March / mid April. Please don't apply if you don't intend on staying.
JOBS: J-1 visa holders can apply for other jobs while in the states.
VISA TIME FRAME: This visa is good for a four month work period, and it includes a travel period of 30 days. Again, we need people to stay through March. If you can't stay until at least March 27th, please don't apply.
COST: Usually the only cost is associated with the program that you apply for your visa with.
Applicants with an H-2B Visa
Applicants with H-2B Visa are able to work for six months during the resort's winter season (November through April). American Ski Exchange Human Resource Department will secure the H-2B visa for the employee. American Ski Exchange has 9 positions available in the store. H-2B Visas will be offered to returning employees first, then anyone with strong referrals from previous employers. Applicants are generally chosen on a "first come, first serve" basis and a phone interview. All jobs are dependant upon Colorado Department of Labor and INS approval. Personal data / resumes need to be sent as soon as possible. Starting in May and as late as August 31st. Also send copies of current passport, permanent address, birthdate and all pertenant phone numbers.
Frequently Asked Questions:
ELIGIBILITY: Any individual who has ski retail / rental shop references.
VISA RESTRICTIONS: The H-2B is subject to INS and consulate approval, this is not a guaranteed visa. Employees are only allowed to work for American Ski Exchange, no other employment is permitted. If an H-2B is terminated, they will be required to leave the country. A word of caution; if you are part of the UK but haven't spent approximately 2 months in your home country prior to coming to the US, you may be denied the Visa. If you have a police record, don't apply. It is also advisable to have a passport at least 3 months old.
VISA DATES: If the visa is approved it will be valid for the duration of our season (November through April 30th). The H-2B is required to leave the states 30 days after the expiration date on the Visa. We expect you to fulfill your job commitment through March. There may be additional work available through April. If you wish to remain longer than the 30 days after the H-2B Visa expires, you can apply for an extention on your tourist Visa.
COST: The consulate in your area may charge a fee between $10 - $150 to process your visa.
Housing: Is not provided. It can be challenging to arrange from long distance. We have helped with temporary housing until you find a place. Finding housing isn't really a problem. It's just much easier to arrange once you are here. Costs are around $1100 for a two bedroom / four bed unit. Places for rent can be found at www.vaildaily.com.
